ENTRY FEE: $75.00 for runners and walkers age 18 and over.
$65.00 for runners and walkers aged 12-17 and Active Military. Active Military must show Military ID at packet pick-up to receive this discount.

CANCELLATION POLICY Per the marathon running industry policy, all entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. This policy applies to all entrants and is in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected family/business emergency, have a medical emergency, etc. There are NO exceptions.You may not roll it over to another year or transfer, sell or give it to another person if you are unable to run. If you do not run or pick up your event shirt you may deduct the amount of your entry as a charitable contribution on your income tax return.  The Big Sur International Marathon is a non-profit 501(c)3 and the proceeds from our events go to local charities and grant groups.

PACKET
PICK-UP:
Bibs, chips, event shirts and goody bags must be picked up at the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 7th or Saturday, November 8th. A Photo ID is required for packet pickup. The Expo is held at the Monterey Conference Center at One Portola Plaza in Monterey, adjacent to the Portola Plaza Hotel. Hours are noon to 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

If you are unable to pick up your packet, you may give a letter of authorization to someone else along with a photocopy of your driver’s license or other picture ID and they may pick up for you.

There is limited race morning pick up between 5:30 and 6:30 AM to accomodate those who absolutely cannot pick up the day before.  Please refer to the Race Weekend Instructions for location of the Packet Pick Up tent at the Custom House Plaza.
START CORRALS: Half Marathon Runners will be seeded in corrals according to predicted finish time and the race will start in waves.  Categories include projected finish times of 1:15 to 1:45; 1:46 to 2:15; 2:16 to 2:45; and 2:46 to 3:30. If you do not provide a projected finish time, we will assign you one of 3:30. Half Marathon and 10-Mile Walkers will be assigned to the last corral.
PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS: - No pets, wheels, pacers, or baby joggers on the course.
- You must be able to complete the course in 3 ½ hours
- You must be at least 12 years of age or older to participate
- You must be in good health and physically prepared to take on the challenges of a half marathon
- Race numbers are required to take part in the race. NO BANDITS! If you are caught as a bandit or running with another person's bib you will be banned from participating in Big Sur Marathon events for a period of one year
- Limited to 6,000 participants
REGISTRATION: Online registration is provided by Active.com. There is a processing fee for both online and mail-in registrations.

You may register online by going to the Half Marathon website at www.bsim.org or you may download the printable online entry form. You may also call 831.625.6226 to request an entry form. When registering you must give a predicted finish time and you will be seeded accordingly. If you do not put the predicted time, we will assign you a finish time of 3 ½ hours.
HERALD PACKAGE The Monterey Herald is our local newspaper.  Following race weekend, the Herald mails weekend newspapers (including unofficial race results) containing stories and articles about the half marathon to all participants of the half.  If you "decline" this package at the time of registration, you can deduct $2 from your entry fee.  This is a good option for locals who already subscribe to the Herald.
CONFIRMATION: If you register online and provide a valid email address, you will be emailed confirmation at the time of registration. Due to firewalls and spam filters, we cannot guarantee you will actually receive that email. If you send in a paper entry and provide a valid email address you will be emailed an entry confirmation. If you do not provide an email address your canceled check or credit card is your confirmation.

All entries can also be confirmed online within 24 hours of registration.  Go to the Registration link and click "Entry Confirmation." Type in LAST NAME only to confirm entry. A photo ID is required to pick up your bib, chip and race packet.

SIZING CHART

The official shirt for the 2008 Half Marathon will be a unisex ASICS® technical fabric shirt. These shirts WILL NOT SHRINK. TIMING:

Chronotrack D-tag timing will be provided by Race Central. These tags are disposable and there is no "lost chip" fee.  During the race, split times, race pace and predicted finish time will be called at each mile marker. For more information on this system, click HERE.

The Half Marathon Run is a timed, competitive event. Cash awards to the top eight Open males and females, and the top three Masters males and females (age 40 and over) are based on GUN time.

Divisional (age group) awards will be based on D-tag time.

The Half Marathon Walk is a timed but NON-COMPETITIVE event and there are no awards given.

CHARITY:

The Big Sur International Marathon is a non-profit and the proceeds of our events are donated to local charities and grant groups. The proceeds from our Half Marathon are dedicated to our youth fitness program, JUST RUN®. JUST RUN is a free program designed to assist schools and other youth organizations by providing vital youth fitness programs. Geared towards promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles in grades 2-8, the program encourages physical activity and healthy eating habits as well as promoting good citizenship and family involvement. Please visit www.justrun.org for more information. We've provided an opportunity to entrants in our Half Marathon to make an optional donation to JUST RUN. We thank you for your consideration.
AID: Water stations, also offering Gatorade, will be found approximately every two miles on the course. GU will be available at one aid station on the course. There will be first aid and medical care at all aid stations and at the Finish.

There is a $1,000 bonus for a new Male or Female course record.

Cash awards are based on GUN, not D-tag time. Divisional awards will be based on D-tag time.

Awards will go five deep in five year age divisions after 12-15 years and 16-19 years.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Course is subject to change. 

The out and back course begins at the corner of Del Monte and Tyler Streets and heads north on Del Monte Avenue past the Window on the Bay. Runners turn right on Camino Aguajito at the eastern end of Lake El Estero and then make the next right onto Third Street. After crossing Camino El Estero, Third becomes Pearl Street. Runners stay on Pearl until Alvarado where they turn right. At Franklin Street, runners turn right again and run past the Start area. At Washington they will turn left on Del Monte and pass through the Custom House Tunnel. After emerging from the tunnel, runners turn right onto Foam Street. They take Foam to Drake and turn right again and then left onto Cannery Row. They run the length of Cannery Row and then turn right on Ocean View Blvd. in Pacific Grove.  At Fountain Avenue (mile 4) runners turn left and proceed to Lighthouse Avenue in downtown Pacific Grove where they turn right.  They take another right at 17th Street and continue down to Ocean View Blvd. and  Lover's Point.  The next six miles are run next to the Monterey Bay.  Oceanview becomes Sunset Drive just past Asilomar Blvd. Runners will make the turnaround at Asilomar Beach at approximately mile 7.75. They will return to Lover's Point the same way and then get on the Recreation Trail. Runners take the Rec Trail back to Cannery Row where they will again run down the Row to Drake. At Drake runners get on the Rec Trail again and take it to the Finish at Custom House Plaza.
