Big Sur Half Marathon Announces 5K Race in Partnership
with the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company

(July 28, 2003 – Carmel, CA)   The “Run Forrest Run” 5K run/walk sponsored by the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company of Cannery Row will be held in conjunction with the Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey, Sunday, November 16 at 8:30 a.m.

The race start is at the intersection of Wave and Irving Streets in Monterey and the out and back course proceeds along Ocean View Boulevard in Pacific Grove turning around just west of Lovers’ Point.  Runners return via the Recreation Trail to the Finish in front of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company on Cannery Row.  The restaurant will be providing pre-race entertainment and post race food and activities.  Awards will be three deep in five year age divisions and the grand prize is a trip to the 2004 Run Forrest Run 5k in New Orleans.

“ We are very happy with the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company’s partnership with the Big Sur Half Marathon,” commented race director Wally Kastner. “Their partnership will allow more individuals, especially young students, to participate in the festivities and perhaps embark on new athletic challenges.”

The 5k is limited to 1,000 participants five years of age or older.  Registration may be accessed online at www.bigsurhalfmarathon.org beginning July 21, 2003 or by calling the Big Sur Marathon office at 831-625-6226 to request an entry form.  The race will offer ChampionChip© timing.  Proceeds will benefit  MY Museum of Monterey County.
